The Dallas Ecological Foundation has a mandate to progressively address many of the most pressing wildlife and habitat conservation issues facing the world today.

The Dallas Ecological Foundation recognizes that young people are the next generation of wildlife and habitat stewards. The Foundation is excited to provide two educational programs, Outdoor Adventures course and the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation curriculum.

The Outdoor Adventures is designed to equip educators and students with the resources for a life-changing introduction to the out-of-doors and traditional field sports. As of September 30, 2009 There are over 57 secondary schools in the north Texas area sponsored by the Foundation. Thousands of students each year are taught: Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Hunter Safety Education, Boat Education and Angler Education; National Archery in Schools Program; Survival Skills; Orienteering and GPS; Outdoor Cooking and CPR/First Aid. Furthermore, the Foundation sponsors field trips and conservation events for the students in their program.

The Outdoor Adventures curriculum is aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge of Skills for the Texas Education Association’s Outdoor Adventures Education course. The credentialed program is recognized by the Texas Education Association as a physical education credit at the high school level. The Dallas Ecological Foundation's Board believes that every student should have the opportunity to experience the great outdoors. With the aid of the Outdoor Adventures curriculum in the educational setting, we know wildlife and habitat conservation issues along with student’s lives will be forever changed.

The Foundation’s newest education curriculum utilizes Shane Mahoney’s “Opportunity for All” DVD to reach students in high school social studies courses.  The North American Model of Wildlife Conservation is a historically rich success story that should make every U.S. citizen proud.  However this story is NOT told in our history classes today.  A group of Texas high school educators wrote 3 to 4 detailed lesson plans for the wildlife model for each of the following social studies courses:  U.S. History, Government, Economics and Geography.  Each lesson is aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge of Skills and will soon be aligned with the National Education Standards.

The Dallas Ecological Foundation believes these two educational programs truly meets our mission statement:

Mission Statement: The mission of the Outdoor Adventures program is to instill in every child through a hands-on, real- world curriculum: an appreciation for the outdoors; the desire for conservation of wildlife/habitat; and an improved self-worth.
